By BAILEY POLLACK
DALLAS- Locals prepare for the steady high temperatures all week, but the possibility of showers and thunderstorms may keep Dallas cool.
Temperature highs will remain in the high 90s and low 100s all this upcoming week. Temperature lows will stay between the 80 F and 82 F range in the evenings, according to the National Weather Service website.
The city of Dallas is taking precautions in order to help locals stay cool when outside in the heat.
“Beginning June 23, Dallas Area Rapid Transit is turning transit stations into cooling centers. They will be open 7 days a week, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.,” according to Kera News. For more information sign up for updates at DART.org, or contact DART customer service at 214-979-1111.
Heat indices will peak in the triple digits, with some areas in North Texas exceeding 100 by the late weekend, according to the NWS website.
“Our humidity stays elevated which is why we are looking at triple-digit heat index values through the weekend and next week looks like it’s going to ramp up even more,” stated WFAA meteorologist Mariel Luiz. “By 100 F for the actual temperature on Monday, it’ll be feeling closer to about 111 F when you do factor in that high humidity.”
Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms
The greatest chance of rain will be on Sunday and Monday with a 20-30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
There is at least A 20% chance of rain from Saturday to Tuesday. Sunday is expected to have winds up to 20 mph.
“There is a major complex, at least the main one, that is alive in Oklahoma, it is definitely plowing southeast through the state associated with the cold front,” stated FOX 4 Weather Meteorologist Evan Andrews. “As it gets towards Texas there will be a risk of storms, primarily high winds.”
Air Quality Returns to Fair
Air quality finally reaches a fair to good level ever since the Canadian forest fires in early June.
Dallas’s AQI is expected to stay between 20 and 40 through this weekend.
